The reason is that most publishing houses have this policy that they do not accept unsolicited submissions andunagented submissions. This means that it will not be easy for you to convince the publisher to publish your work till you have an agent. However, you need to understand the fact that no writer is actually born published. It may sound like a struggle for you, but there are ways through which you can get your unsolicited work published without an agent. We will discover the approach right here.

Getting Unsolicited Manuscript Published Without an Agent

First of all, if you do not have an agent, then you do not have to worry because you still have a way out. The good news is that small publishing houses do accept unsolicited manuscripts directly from the writers. Usually, the small publishing houses do not have the distributions that the big publishing houses tend to have, but the niche specific markets find these small publishing houses appealing. Thus this means that small publishing houses are successful in the niche specific markets. At times, larger publishing houses allow for unsolicited submissions in a certain country, on a certain day or week.

Here is what you need to do.

-When you go to a specific publisher, make sure that you visit the specific website first so that you have a clear idea regarding the kind of work the publisher publishes.

-Ensure that you edit your manuscript to the level of perfection.

-Your cover letter should look professional and should have all the information required by the publisher.

-Follow the submission guidelines, otherwise, the publisher will not even bother to look at your manuscript. The standard approach is a cover letter, a synopsis, about the author, table of contents, and sample chapters (usually 3-4). Even if the publisher specifies submission of the first 3 chapters, be clever and send the best 3 chapters instead. If the publisher is interested in reading your manuscript in full, he will send you a letter of intent and will ask for your full manuscript. Do remember that publishers receive about 2,000 manuscripts per month, so make sure that you are fully prepared, and that your presentation is impeccable. In other words, try to stand out from the crowd.

- If you decide to go to a non-fiction publisher, then he will expect you to submit a proposal first. They will be a set of guidelines that you will have to follow for the proposal.

There are certain things that you need to remember when visiting the publisher. You do not have to pay for getting a book published. If the publisher charges you for printing or editing service, then the preferable approach should be not to opt for such a publisher. This is why you need to do the research on your part and choose a publisher who can address your requirements in the best way.
